Starts 4/1 - Tuesdays 12-2PM

Started Apr 1
425 US dollars
River Ceramics Studio

Service Description

This six week semi-private course serves as an introduction to wheel thrown clay techniques for beginners. The course will cover the basics: centering, functional forms/vessels, and trimming. Students will become familiar with clay, its stages, and the tools/equipment required for throwing. Cleaning and best practices in the studio will also be covered. Students are responsible for cleaning their space at the end of each class and at the end of any independent drop-ins. This six week course includes: • One-on-three instruction. Meaning there are only three students in this class, allowing for constant direct instruction and assistance. • Use of all tools, materials, and equipment. • One 25lb block of white stoneware clay. Any remaining clay at the end of the six week class will be returned to the studio to be recycled. • All firing and glazing. Students will choose single colors for each of their vessels before the end of their final class. Should a student wish to have a more personalized touch, they may schedule a glazing appointment for $10 an hour after course is complete. • Open Studio time - This time is provided for students to work independently. Drop-ins to be scheduled during open studio hours - each student receives one additional weekly drop-in throughout the duration of their course. • Six fully complete pieces. Students will choose their best six pieces to keep from the course. This class does occur while the studio is open for Members Hours. There may or may not be others working in the space while your class is happening.

Cancellation Policy

There are no refunds for this class. As it is a semi-private class (meaning there is one instructor and only two students) it is important to note that registering your seat fills 50% of the class. Please do not register if you can not attend the four consecutive weeks as it takes the opportunity away from another eager potter. River Ceramics is not responsible for providing make-up classes or issuing refunds for classes missed as a result of your illness, injury, emergencies, weather conditions or any situation beyond our control. In the case of a weather-related studio closing, the class session will be rescheduled for the following Tuesday or Friday and the syllabus schedule will be pushed back. Our classes are lesson-based and structured week to week for beginners to reach success. In the event that a student misses a class and the lesson must be given on an individual basis, an additional “catch-up” fee will be applied to aid in getting the student back on track. This fee ranges from $45-75 depending on whether the lesson can be scheduled during open studio hours or must be scheduled outside of our standard schedule.
